Imagine a photograph of a pale, smooth-skinned, beautiful woman in an evening dress posing elegantly with some gray, coarse elephants. Imagine a thirteen-year old boy with rattlesnake guts on his overalls, while skinning the snake in his hands. Imagine a young coal miner, covered in black coal with blood on his face.
With the Richard Avedon exhibition at San Francisco’s Museum of Modern Art, these images have become a reality, and no longer have to only exist in your mind. These black-and-white photographs from 1946-2004 range from fashion photos to average, working people to celebrities. The best part is that the people in the photographs are not smiling. Smiling is what a person would think to do if they see a camera pointing their way. It is just our natural reaction. But Richard Avedon does not want to be like everyone else. He sets himself apart from the average photographer.

The fact that the photographs are in black and white really shows off the emotions that these people are feeling. And these emotions are real. If someone is feeling happy, it shows, but if someone is feeling something different than happy, it definitely shows. There is even a picture of Marilyn Monroe looking not-so-perfect, and maybe even lonely. So if you want to see these carefully crafted pictures that I am talking about, go to the SF MOMA and look at Richard Avedon’s photographs until November 29th and check it out!

Have you ever been kidnapped by a group of rebels while on a sightseeing trip in Guatemala?
Well I haven’t, but Amy Kuney has, and she is still living to tell the story. Fortunately, the rebels eventually let her and her friends go, and the experience actually helped her to focus on her songwriting. Amy Kuney is an upcoming musician from Tulsa, Oklahoma. Kuney is slowly becoming more and more well-known in the music industry.

She is already signed to Spin Move Records at the age of 23. She is a singer, songwriter, and guitarist and is well-known for her cover and original songs on Youtube. Amy has even opened for Kate Voegelle and The Veronicas. We can expect to be seeing more and more of her in the upcoming years, and I had the privilege of being able to interview her by email.
In the interview she said she would describe her music style as Indie/Pop, and does not give a specific name to her clothing style, but loves wearing jeans and heels. When asked about her musical and fashion influences, she replied, “Fiona Apple and Keane. I don’t really have a fashion influence. I just wear what’s comfortable; however I do look up to the mannequins at Urban Outfitters.” She says that the one piece of clothing that no one can live without is a checkered scarf and the one song that no one can live without is Fiona Apple’s ‘Criminal’. Her favorite song to perform is ‘Simple Things’ because “that’s the one that gets everyone’s attention” she says.

I also asked her some random questions about her likes/dislikes, and what she is all about. Here they are:
Thrift/Vintage Stores vs. The Mall?
Thrift/Vintage Stores
Time travel to Past or Future?
Definitely future
Hot Chocolate vs. Hot Tea?
Hot coffee
Do you think of yourself as a follower or leader?
Depends on the situation. I’m not the boldest person you’ll ever meet, but I don’t do stupid things to fit in…
The weirdest fashion trend you have seen?
The “onesie”…talk about uncomfortable
Is there anything else you would like the world to know about you?
I now have a Tumblr account and a twitter account ![]()
Thanks for the interview, Amy!

As one very wise person once said, “My pokemon brings all the nerds to the yard, and they’re like you wanna trade cards? Darn right, I wanna trade cards, I’ll trade this but not my charizard.”

I have to say it is probably my favorite music video that I have ever seen! I love it when music videos have a story to them, and are not just a singer singing a song, and trying to look pretty. Those kind get boring after a while, but this is one that I just can’t stop watching! I was sitting in my living room, eating my breakfast and watching MTV when it came on. I finished eating breakfast and was going to go back upstairs, but then it caught my eye. I wasn’t even a huge Taylor Swift fan, but I loved it that this pretty girl wasn’t afraid to dress up in nerdy glasses and baggy sweatshirts (which she still looked pretty in anyway) for the video.

So the moral of this blog post is: Be Yourself. Because you’re the only one who is really allowed to do that.
